In 2017, while walking after a rainstorm in Woodland Hills, I was captivated by the Unearthing of the natural formation of an elongated figure holding a child with the initial ‘E’ clearly embossed near the legs; the ‘E’ could also be viewed as an animal. This natural formation, 6′ x 18″, created out of tar, mud, sand, leaves etc. was resting at the base of a driveway on the street.

I continued to chronologically photograph this emergence and gradual disintegration over the next half a year, eagerly looking forward to capturing images on my daily morning walks.

I am continuing to reflect upon and paint this revelation on wood panels trying to portray its unearthly timely message. Personally, its initial appearance and subsequent decomposition back into the earth became a visual confirmation of our All to Brief Existence on Earth.
