As a contemporary sculptor I am continually digging in the catacombs of the mind. My work is a vehicle in which I seek to unearth prior existence and give meaning to the here and now.
In Petroglyphs of the Soul man’s inhumanity to man is represented by the sculptural depiction of the evolution of the human spirit. Unlike paintings and photographs which can be ignored, sculpture invades the viewers space and demands and requires an immediate response.
The Holocaust has had a profound influence on all my works. As a fully practicing artist I have been portraying man’s inhumanity to man on a personal, emotional, spiritual and graphic level. I have frozen a moment in history, captured a facet of society and recreated it as fragile, organic, fragmented, vibrant human forms, full of dignity and respect, love and innocence, spiritually and psychologically aware.
Many of these sculptures are a symbolic testimonial to the strength, both in body and spirit of the six million Holocaust victims. Created from handmade paper, they are at once both fragile and strong. Backthrough Woman is modeled from a Holocaust survivor.. Repetitive images evoke the seen and the unseen at once pure and unique individuals. They are unified by continuity, compassion and community. These powerful, semi abstracted sculptural forms of humanity provoke the viewer to become an involved participant. They are compelled both consciously and unconsciously to examine their personal feelings,
comprehension and unveiling of their hidden emotions.
